There's no one fixed method, other than to know the highest and lowest notes you can comfortably sing, figure out what the highest and lowest notes are in the song you want to sing, and then change the key of the song accordingly so the lowest note of the song is above your lowest note and the highest note of the song is below your highest. Sort of depends on how the melody is written, how much of it lies between the tonic and the dominant below, or the tonic and the dominant above, or how much lies between the dominant and the tonic above and further up. Sometimes, though, you have to be concerned with the lowest notes, not the highest notes. transpose the highest note into a range you can sing spot the highest and lowest notes in the songĢ.
